If you’ve just bought a new off-road camper or caravan in Brisbane and are looking for the best off-road camping sites in South East Queensland, here are a few of our favourites.
Our award-winning team at JAWA Campers have put a smile on the faces of hundreds of customers around Australia with our evolving range of off road lifestyle vans. So where can Brisbane and Sunny Coasters christen their new van?
Two hours from Brisbane by road and ferry, Straddie is an essential stop for a new off road caravan owner and we love it. Flinders Beach is the famously remote stretch of magnificent sandy beaches along the top of North Stradbroke Island. While the Flinders Beach Campsites don’t have all the mod cons, neighbouring sites do – but Flinders Beach is far enough from the 2WD camp zones to get a real feel for your van on the sand. This is an ambitious first trip, but luckily, if you’re feeling shy, there are plenty of campsites on the island to choose from.
Why we love it:
The perfect place to learn to drive on sand. The camp area has basic amenities but is only accessible by 4WD, so it doesn’t get quite as crowded as other North Stradbroke camp sites.
Just over an hour from the Sunshine Coast and 2 hours from Brisbane, we’ve been coming here since the kids were little, and now they take their kids! That’s the mark of a good campsite in my mind, somewhere that holds such happy memories that it’s passed down generations.
Why we love it:
Immaculately kept site with clean toilets, a water hole and abundant wildlife to see. There’s so much to explore, no one in the family will get bored. Whenever we sell a family caravan on the Sunshine Coast or in Brisbane, I suggest they take the kids here to practice the basics and delight the kids.
Only an hour from the Sunshine Coast and just over 2 hours from Brisbane, the campground has all the amenities you’d like when hitting the road for the first time.
Why we love it:
Beautifully placed on the side of a creek, this campground has clean amenities, great fishing & swimming holes and is conveniently located so that even a novice off-roader will be able to get here.
The best time to year to go
We are so lucky in Queensland with the mild dry winters that we can camp all year round, especially in our hybrid camper models which offer great protection from the elements. Obviously these spots can get crowded in school holidays and holiday season but you can camp almost the whole year-round.
