In the beginning of seeking out our first van after 25 years of a camp trailer we drove to Townsville to look at another brand of van and put a deposit down for that van there and then.
BUT up the road we saw JAWA sign so pulled in for a look. Never heard of them and not seen one at the two caravan expos we had been too.
My husband Rick was keen to see what was underneath being a mechanical fitter boilermaker and was impressed with the quality of workmanship and running gear.
I was keen to see inside. My non negotiable were separate toilet and shower, cafe dinette, large outdoor pantry and a N/S bed that I could walk beside. But I had to compromise with the bed if I wanted the pantry and so I did. We don’t have as much cupboard spaces as the commander but I’m ok with that because I love the openness feel for the van. So yes we cancelled the other van and went with the retreat escape.
I have dreamt about our van daily, it’s what kept us going over a traumatic 12 month period if loosing all my parents and the sale of our house, buying again, moving, and everything that goes with sorting out 2 estates. Not to mention working full time. Full retirement in a couple of years.
I love that Jawa is a family run business and John and Kez were patient and compassionate while we worked through that year. We will be eternally grateful.
