GVM - Gross Vehicle Mass

The GVM (gross vehicle mass) is the maximum allowable total mass of a fully loaded motor vehicle as specified by the manufacturer.

Consisting of the tare mass (base weight/mass of the vehicle) plus the load.

The load would include fuel, all occupants, cargo and any add-on accessories.

Tow Ball Weight

Tow ball weight (ball load or tow ball mass) is the load exerted on the tow ball of the tow vehicle. In Australia, ball eight is generally around 10% of the ATM. Check your vehicle specs.

Payload

All the extra bits on board including water, gas, cargo, clothes, accessories and add-ons.

Payload is the ATM minus the Tare Weight.

TARE - Tare Mass

Base weight at manufacture.

Weight of your caravan empty and unhitched from the tow vehicle. No payload including water, gas in bottles or after market accessories.

ATM - Aggregated Trailer Mass

Base weight at manufacture.

ATM is the combined weight of the camper and its full load when it is not coupled to a tow vehicle.

GTM - Gross Trailer Mass

Weight of your caravan fully loaded when it is still hitched to the tow vehicle.

GCM - Gross Combined Mass

Weight of your tow vehicle and caravan hitched together with both fully loaded.
